Chuck - W8LQ

Hi, John...... I'm an "other" in your latest poll!!
The kid sitting next to me in 7th grade ( a guy by the name of Bob Coppernoll) got me interested in Morse so we could talk to each other in class by squeezing hands across the aisle. Once I learned the alphabet (about two days.....who sez it's hard learning the code?!) I found that some clicks and thumps (no BFO!) on the short-wave bands of my parents RCA living room radio sounded like Morse. That got me turned on to the thought of doing something like that myself. Fortunately I had an uncle (the ORIGINAL - 1914- 8LQ) who fanned the flames of my interest. By the time I was in 9th grade I got my feet wet bootlegging on 40 meters with a 6L6 and a 2-tube regen. I'm sure my fist was not the best but I got better (I think) when I mastered my old McElroy bug. Finally got legitimate with W8WOE in 1941! Been 95% CW ever since. I guess my Morse is readable, cuz I know you can copy it!! Vy 73..... Chuck W8LQ
