Matt - W6YNS

I understand you on only operating CW. CW is an art to work at on both sending and copying. I am working at the mode just so I can be able to communicate across the world. A lot of people do not understand that the human voice has inconsistencies of pitch. As for CW it has a consistent pitch that doesn't vary. Sometimes with the human voice with the conditions of solar activity, it isn't always feasible to use SSB. So CW has that advantage as well. Some CW can sound like music to your ears. I have been on the CW bands more, I have had only 5 SSB contacts so far, which will pretty much stay that way. I find that CW operators will work with the newcomers to the hobby or people who are new to the mode. I have had QSO's with Extras who have been in the hobby since the sinking of the titanic; yet these guys will spend time with you by sending at a slower speed. The other neat thing about the CW portions of the bands is that there are less of the freebanders ( CB operators) that harass people that check into the net. A lot of the people like to swear on the SSB like truckdrivers or sailors. I am sure there are a few CW operators who do the same thing, but that is very few and far between. You are doing a great job encouraging people to the mode. Many people want to preserve CW and yet they won't ragchew with the new comers.

I find CW a fun way and creative way to communicate with people. Don't worry about CW going away soon, there will always be people who use CW. The days of people being 100% CW are dying, but there will always be CW on the airwaves. Some people just feel funny talking behind a microphone; and yet they talk real well with their fingers. The neat thing about CW is the fact you don't need very fancy equipment. Well 73's John and keep up the good work. From Matt W6YNS

P.S. you should get a microphone for a paperweight, especially an Astatic Microphone. They come in handy for self defense with the blunt bottom!
